About me

I am in my ninth year as principal of St Joseph's Catholic school in Oamaru, New Zealand. I was born in Melbourne, Australia. I have two beautiful daughters who are both living and working in Melbourne.

I am presently studying a Masters in Educational Leadership part time through the Australian Catholic University and The Catholic Institute of New Zealand.

I created this blog in April 2014 after returning from my ten week principal sabbatical. I was inspired by students from the Manaikalani Cluster of schools in Auckland who were sharing their learning on individuals blogs via Twitter. I decided that if I wanted learners at St Joseph's in Oamaru to do the same, then I needed to model this myself.

This blog enables me to record learning opportunities that I am fortunate to experience. The process of recording these allows me a chance to actively reflect, absorb and action new learning and change. Sometimes we can be motivated and excited by new learning experiences but they can quickly be forgotten once we return to the busyness of our lives. Other times, we take copious notes and in my case, rarely look at them again. This blog enables me to record my learning and easily come back to it when I need to. It also provides an opportunity to share my learning with students, staff, parents and other educators.

I warmly invite feedback and appreciate any comments connected to my posts or otherwise.
